Queen City Jazz Band

Denver is called "the Queen City of the Plains" and this is their own band!!  They have a website here.

When IBM moved me to Denver in 1968, I bought my first house in southwest Denver.  The QCJB was playing at the Mon-Vu Village, just a couple of miles away.  So I would go up on Friday or Saturday and listen to them play, and listen to Alan Fredrickson, as he read passages from "Your Erroneous Zone" and other classics.  Furthermore, Bob Burdick, their banjo player at the time, was an IBM Systems Engineer, and we would chat about our shared passions, banjo and jazz!  So, of course, I've always had a warm spot in my heart for them.

When I was settled in Belize, I got a note from John Bartmann (their trumpeter) that he and some friends were coming down to Belize to fish.  Could we hook up?  Well, he came, more than once, but we never did hook up.  He has invited me to come up and sit in at the Bull & Bush, where they hold court now-a-days, but I still haven't made it.

Their version of Cakewalkin' Babies is here.

Stay tuned for more tunes and new developments.
