Cherry -- Gerry Mulligan

This has always been my favorite tune by Gerry and Chet Baker -- playing with tasty drums and bass.  Notice that in the first chorus, bass is "two out of four," before he goes to four out of four (walking bass) for the ride choruses.  Then he slides back into two out of four for the close.

As a young jazz player at the University of Arizona in the 50's, this style became one of my models. I later played with a group called the "Aladdin Septet" in Salina, KS that played all of Gerry's arrangements.  What fun I had playing!  How lucky I was!!
