Books About Jazz

We Called It Music -- by Eddie Condon.  Eddie was a banjo -- later tenor guitar -- player who knew a lot of people.  He could round up a bunch of players for a recording session.  His book about the 30's is wonderful.

Rhythm Man -- by Steve Jourdon.  Steve played Rhythm Guitar with many of the bands of the 40's.  His insights into playing helped me a lot.

Straight Life -- by Art Pepper.  Art was an amazing player, who wrecked his life with heroin.  He tells all the nitty-gritty details here.

Miles -- by Miles Davis.  Tim recommends this book.  I'll let you know. <grin>

Coon-Sanders: The Band that Made Radio Famous --  by Fred W. Edmiston   Oops!  65 bux!!   I'll have to wait until I'm rich and famous.

The American Songbook This is a "coffee-table book" that you will love.  Mike Nelson bought one at Borders, so I went out and did the same thing.  Found better prices at Amazon.  The publishers have a neat website here.
