Dr. Jazz --  Firehouse Five Plus Two

(from 16 Dixieland Favorites.)

This tune follow the Trad format we generally follow with the Colorado Nighthawks.

  1. 1. An ensemble chorus, where...

  2.     +Clarinet plays "tenor" or "alto" (on top)

  3.     +Trumpet plays melody

  4.     +Trombone plays "baritone" (underneath)

  5. 2. A vocal chorus, usually by the whole band

  6. 3. Front line soli  (that's the plural of solo!!) )(in Italian)

  7. 4. "Dogfight" -- everybody swings

    5. "Jellyroll Morton ending"**

**Jellyroll used a lot of endings, but the FH5 uses this one all the time and so do we!!  (Well, almost all the time.)

The second selection is from The Jim Cullum Jazz Band, of San Antonio.  It is Dixieland.  Hear the difference?  It's good jazz, it swings, but to me, it's lost something.  (From "Fireworks, Red Hot & Blues.")
