"Come Back, Sweet Papa"

King Oliver was known as "Papa" and this may be implied by the song!  Of course, "Papa" is a great sobriquet for any "sweet-lovin' daddy" eh?  We can all dream of being somebody's "Sweet Papa."

1. Louis Armstrong playing with his Hot Five.  Wife Lil playing the piano, Kid Ory on the trombone.

2. Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band was a copy of the old King Oliver Band.  The picture at the right => is a hard-to-find collage of Lu playing and having a drink at the bar!

3. The Firehouse Five + Two was an unabashed copy of the Lu Waters band.  As you listen, you can hear Ward Kimball copying the tailgate licks of Turk Murphy.
